Dequervain's tenosynovitis refers to inflammation of the tendons within the 1st dorsal extensor compartment of the wrist. Custom thumb spica splinting can assist in decreasing pain and inflammation in this area by reducing strain on these tendons during activity and at night. Once initial inflammation has decreased, the splint is weaned from use.
