Distal Radius Fracture
Fractures of the distal radius are the most common fracture of the upper extremity. Initial management depends on fracture location, displacement, angulation, and associated soft tissue injuries. Despite the trend to attempt rigid fixation and begin early motion, several splinting options exist that can help with rehabiliation. Initial fracture protection is achieved through a wrist cock up splint. Once the fracture is healed, static progressive or dynamic splinting can be initiated to maximize range of motion.
