Proximal & Middle Phalanx Fractures
Proximal and middle phalanx fractures often require splinting. If fractures are extra-articular, stable, and not displaced, conservative management with splinting is indicated. Middle phalanx fractures are often treated with a finger gutter and proximal phalanx fractures require hand based splinting. For unstable fractures or fractures with displacement, splinting is used following ORIF or percutaneous pinning. For intra-articular fractures at the PIP, dynamic traction splinting may be necessary.
